Channel 10 is particularly annoying for claiming its shows (Californication on 21st August, House on Oct. 3rd) are “Streamed live from the US”, because as far as I can see the show’s aren’t on in the US at the same time.

After 25 years the White Cliffs power station in New South Wales has received recognition as an Engineering Heritage site, and will be preserved as such. It provided grid connected power for 6 years. As most White Cliffs houses are underground (quite common in opal mining territory where drilling equipment is commonplace), the houses tend to be very energy efficient.

On the bus this morning I looked out and saw wildflowers in bloom.
Spring is upon us.

Today I got a recorded phone call telling me “Congratulations you have been randomly selected to receive a Florida Bahamas holiday”. I imagine it would have been quite nice, if I hadn’t hung up on it.

I hadn’t realised there’d been a plague in the World of Warcraft back in 2005. Probably better to die of that than the ignominity of a dirty guinea pig.

“Whatever your position in that debate, one unmistakable legacy of Vietnam is that the price of America’s withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens whose agonies would add to our vocabulary new terms like ‘boat people,’ ‘re-education camps’ and ‘killing fields.’”
“Then as now, people argued that the real problem was America’s presence, and that if we would just withdraw, the killing would end,” Bush said. “The world would learn just how costly these misimpressions would be,” he added.
(from the ABC)
Gee George, it would have been much better if you’d thought about that before you sent the troops in.

Westpac has announced its Sydney metro branches will be closed due to the “APEC public holiday” on 7th September. Presumably it’s a public holiday to get people out of the way of the riot police, teargas and helicopters.

Two rings to rule them all,
Two rings to find them,
Two rings to bring them all,
And in the sock drawer find them.
