You can check your current enrollment here https://oevf.aec.gov.au/. New enrollment forms are here: http://www.aec.gov.au/_content/what/enrolment/forms.htm
Do it now because the government may spring an election on you at any time and you may then only get hours to register.
Personally I subscribe to the “if you don’t vote you abrogate your right to whinge” mentality.
Remember, vote early, vote often!

Recent discovery: religion and ligature have the same root, religion being something that ties together those with the same beliefs.
Random musing: Amadeus = ama deus, being love of God.

So, in 1816 Tambora exploded with about 4x the energy of Krakatoa. This led to a “stratospheric sulfate aerosol veil” which is lead to have caused the year without summer. 49,000 are estimated to have died from post eruption famine and epidemic diseases. More indirectly it may have influenced to the art of J. M. W. Turner, and led to Frankenstein, the bicycle (and thus the motorcycle), and Mormonism.

I find this Discover magazine article about the map of the blogosphere interesting. Most of the bright points are ones I haven’t heard of before (other than LJ and Boing Boing). But on the outer are LJ (with a rich internal life), jocks, and porn fans, which I guess means they have some similarities (possibly other than just that they link poorly to the rest of the blogosphere

The mayor of Nagasaki was gunned down outside his office, purportedly assassinated by the Yakuza. He was an outspoken critic of the US and the use of nuclear weapons.
Must be time to watch “Edge of Darkness” again.

The ABC Fiction award is offering a $10,000 advance and publication through ABC Books for manuscripts you haven’t sent to anyone else (and you have to be over 18). Note that’s ‘ABC’ as in ‘Australian Broadcast Corporation’.

You scored as Capt. Lee Adama (Apollo). You have spent your life trying to life up to and impress your Dad, shame he never seemed to notice. You are a stickler for the rules. But in matters of loyalty and honour you know when they have to be broken.

Why is it that we “beef up” something, but don’t ever seem to “chicken up”, “prawn up” or “veggie up” something? Or perhaps we’d “chicken down”, “prawn down” or “veggie down” something
