Geodesica

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

Just finished Geodesica Descent, (sequel of Sean Williams and Shane Dix’s Geodesica Ascent).

Like most Sean Williams books I really enjoyed it. Questioning the nature of humanity and how human relationships can survive in a post-human world across hundreds of years. The characters are probably more angst-ridden than your average Iain M. Banks Culture novel though. Did notice a couple of friends got a mention in the credits too :)

Tracking you using your computer’s temperature

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

This is exceedingly evil. By measuring clock skew via packets your computer sends out on the internet, an attacker could use the CPU temperature information to compromise your anonymity.

The Chaos Communications Conference seems to be where the cool (and evil) kids are hanging out this week.

Second Christmas desserts

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

We’re having second Christmas this week (once some family members who missed out the first time around are in town), and are looking for a summery dessert with a nod to Christmas, so if you’ve got any suggestions (preferably with a recipe!) then let us know.

We’ve done the summer berry pudding thing previously so something else would probably be good.
