Usually I pay some attention to what Google Ads get thrown up on specific pages I visit. One that randomly caught my eye was (IIRC) something about “Find a Christian Indian Wife” (No, sadly I can’t remember what my search term was). Intrigued by what sort of Bollywoodish demographic this might lead to (not because I’m shopping around), I clicked through to the site.
As well as the usual signup information, you’re also asked about such attributes as
- Profile registered by: Self/ Parents/ Guardian/ Sibling/ Friend/ Marriage Bureau/ Other
- Highest Degree: (with a pretty good breakdown of available degrees, just in case you were after a lawyer or something)
- Mother Tongue/Community: (30 or so options!)
- Religion: Hindu/ Muslim/ Christian/ Sikh/ Jain/ Parsi/ Jew/ Buddhist/ Other
- Caste: (over 200 Hindu castes listed!)
- Sub Caste/Surname
- Gothra: (Optional. Giant flying japanese monster clad in black with makeup? I had to look this up)
You also have the option of only making your profile visible to those who match your filters, which is kind of cool.
I wonder what else you can discern about cultures through their on-line dating sites
