In an attempt to avoid the parking hassles I caught the bus in to work. Full of students of course. Sigh. Why can’t half of them stay at home and watch their lectures on the internet?
Despite getting a table at the Guild Café it was too noisy, so we headed down to the river for lunch. Fortunately not everyone was down there.
Went back to beg an ATM for money and ran into Garner, still spruiking iPods.
Caught bus home (through the hospital) and got to sit next to dermatology student who happened to have just got up to the page on genital warts. Sigh. Tried not to notice.
The evening was filled with many people, children and pancakes.
Got a very nice compliment on our software in the comments to the previous post. Thanks Zanchey!
This says it all really. Especially when you scroll up a bit and compare it to grammage.
In addition to being able to say ‘ove ou too’, Puggle can now say ‘take care’, amongst many other things (including ‘airport’, after my parents unearthed Fisher Price toys from my childhood). I have a theory that vocabulary is linked to body mass, he definitely started getting heavier about the same time as his vocabulary took off.
No staff parking. No pay parking. Gridlock in the carpark. Eventually managed to snag a spot after hunting for some time. Spent the rest of the day feeding the meter. Did get to see the P plate driver of a new black Jag with personalised plates swapping details with the other P-plater who’d backed into her.
On the work front, nothing particularly broken this morning. 79 recordings scheduled and no showstopping failures. The usual venues with volumes too low, people not turning on their microphones, etc. Makes me quite happy for day one, as none of it’s my fault
Touch wood all will continue to go well here and elsewhere. Kind of cool to be able to watch lectures from all over campus from your desk.
Today is Collop Monday (Mmmm… Bacon). Pancakes tomorrow. You know, despite un petite peu de francaise I never realised that Mardi Gras translates as Fat Tuesday.
Skip and I went to see Jarhead today. As a bonus got to see the V for Vendetta trailer, can’t wait for that, I hope it’s not cut to shreds. The trailer looked like it had promising scenes included though of course the trailer may bear no resemblance to the movie.
*May include spoilers if you’re really keen on seeing Jarhead*
As expected it had a pretty strong ‘futility of war’ message. It was quite watchable but I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to see it. Great scenery of endless desert, and endless desert on fire, so if you like that, see it on the big screen. I wonder if the advertising was targeted at making people think that it was a ‘war is good’ film, only to then lure them into ‘war is boring and futile’.
Only just realised it was directed by American’ Beauty’s Director, Sam Mendes
Apple ’special event’ on the 28th. What’s up the sleeve of Steve?
Today I worked out I spend about as much on coffee during the year as I do on internet access ![]()
It’s that time of year again, so if you’d like to bitch about Swancon, WASFF, hotels, committees, any awards or anything, feel free to comment below. It doesn’t have to be about this year’s Swancon, there’s at least 30 others to choose from.
Because we all know it’s going to happen anyway, might as well get it out of the way early and in a forum nobody’s ever likely to read. Well, probably until now ![]()
